Job Summary:

The Primary Care Physician (PCP) is responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical services to patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric populations.

The PCP will conduct medical history assessments, perform physical examinations, diagnose medical conditions, and manage referrals and coordination of care.

The position requires a compassionate physician committed to patient wellness and effective healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform medical histories and physical examinations for patients.
  • Diagnose medical conditions and determine appropriate treatment plans.
  • Order necessary laboratory tests and imaging (e.g., x-rays).

Patient Referrals and Coordination:

  • Refer patients to outside specialists and hospitals for services not available within the IHS healthcare delivery system.
  • Coordinate referrals through the Purchase Referred Care (PRC) office, ensuring patient eligibility and appointment scheduling.

Care Coordination:

  • Collaborate with other healthcare agencies and facilities for patient admissions and rehabilitation services.
  • Arrange emergency transport for patients as needed (ground and air).

Patient Support and Record Keeping:

  • Interpret clinical data and formulate therapeutic programs.
  • Provide support and information to patients and their families during times of illness.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, completing EHR notes within 24 hours of patient visits.

Medication Management:

  • Prescribe medications and treatment therapies, working with nurses and pharmacists to implement care plans.

Counseling and Referrals:

  • Provide ongoing counseling for common social and emotional issues, recognizing when to refer to mental health professionals.
  • Contact medical and surgical consultants for patient care discussions and referrals.

Work Schedule:

Shifts will vary within the operational hours (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Sunday to Saturday), including evenings, weekends, and federal holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, or completion of a formal residency in internal medicine and pediatrics accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education.

Certifications:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (mandatory).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
