Position Title: Junior Category Management Specialist, Graham Enterprise, Inc. (GEI)

Role Summary: This role is pivotal in executing marketing strategies at the category level. A successful Junior Category Management Specialist at GEI plays a significant role in enhancing the profitability of retail locations by boosting product sales within specific categories and optimizing inventory turnover rates.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Marketing Manager

Key Objectives: The Junior Category Management Specialist serves as an in-store authority on merchandising, pricing, management, and sales for designated product categories. By leveraging extensive knowledge of assigned categories, this role drives pricing strategies, shelf placement, marketing initiatives, and promotional activities to maximize visibility, accessibility, and appeal to customers. This position acts as a crucial link between suppliers, store managers, marketing teams, and operational staff, with a responsibility to meet or exceed sales, margin, and corporate objectives while adhering to GEI's high standards and compliance requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Implement marketing initiatives through:
  2. Development of promotional strategies
  3. Setting retail pricing
  4. Determining product assortment and merchandising
  5. Negotiating supplier contracts
  6. Researching and applying effective merchandising techniques

Be the main contact for all product-related inquiries from stores or suppliers.

Collaborate with operations, site General Managers, and marketing personnel to ensure effective merchandising and product implementation at the store level.

Address and resolve issues arising from stores or suppliers efficiently.

Investigate and apply innovative marketing techniques.

Identify opportunities to enhance category profitability beyond traditional margins and supplier funding.

Assess and analyze the effectiveness of promotional campaigns.

Coordinate cross-category promotions with colleagues to maximize sales and margins.

Negotiate with suppliers to secure promotional funding and merchandising support.

Design product assortments and planograms to optimize sales performance.

Regularly adjust pricing strategies to maintain competitive advantages and maximize profit margins.

Implement initiatives aimed at reducing product waste.

Assist with Pricebook-related projects as required.

Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing, or a related field is preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in retail vendor management, marketing, and merchandising is strongly preferred
  • Experience in gas station/convenience store operations is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills with a strategic mindset and understanding of data analysis and forecasting
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to take initiative and execute strategies effectively
  • Passion for customer service with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
