Position Overview:

Under general supervision, the Customer Service Specialist 2 will engage in a range of customer service functions at designated offices that do not necessitate an Arizona P.O.S.T certified peace officer. This role involves interpreting and conveying the stipulations of state and federal motor vehicle regulations relevant to Port Operations. Responsibilities may include screening and weighing commercial vehicles, with a preference for candidates holding a weight master certification.

Responsibilities include verifying vehicle registrations and associated documents for authenticity. The Specialist will issue permits, calculate and collect necessary fees and taxes, and manage related cash reconciliations. Ensuring the security of cash receipts and various accountable forms is a critical aspect of this role.

The position regulates domestic and international commercial vehicle traffic through permit issuance. The incumbent will frequently interact with the public, including potentially challenging situations with upset individuals. Assignments may require working across different shifts as needed.

A background check is mandatory, and overnight travel may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Respond to inquiries regarding motor vehicle administrative rules, regulations, and applicable federal and state statutes. Address customer issues, concerns, and problems effectively. Provide information to representatives from other states' motor carrier entities, transportation personnel, law enforcement, and various governmental bodies.

Facilitate motor carrier customer interactions, follow-ups, and information referrals related to enforcement programs.

Issue necessary permits, manage routes for over-dimensional loads, and collect appropriate fees and taxes. Responsible for cash receipt reconciliation and daily deposit preparation. Identify situations requiring enforcement actions and refer them to the appropriate officer or supervisor. Verify the authenticity of motor carrier vehicle registrations and related documents.

Prepare reports as required by agency and enforcement standards. Communicate essential information regarding motor carrier size/weight, permits, and other relevant details through electronic, written, or verbal means with colleagues, supervisors, and the public. Attend meetings, conferences, and training sessions as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:
- Functions, organization, and policies of law enforcement agencies.
- Computer applications and software, including Spillman analysis.
- Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Systems (RMS).
- Federal OSHA, state, and county regulations regarding safe work practices.
- Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) laws and Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training (AZ POST) rules.

Skills in:
