The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Public Health Inspector to join our team in the Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation. As a Public Health Inspector, you will play a critical role in protecting the public's health by ensuring that food establishments and other facilities comply with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct regular inspections of food establishments, including restaurants, schools, and homeless shelters, to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Enforce provisions of the Smoke-Free Air Act and other tobacco-related regulations to create a smoke-free environment and reduce access to tobacco products for minors.
- Review menu boards and observe compliance with nutritional requirements to reduce chronic diseases and obesity.
- Prepare inspection reports using handheld computers and serve court summonses when specific violations are found.
- Testify at Office of Trials and Hearings and other courts when required.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 30 semester credits in the physical and/or biological sciences.
- Or an associate degree from an accredited college, with 15 semester credits in the physical and/or biological sciences, and 5 years of experience as a public health technician.
- Medical guidelines have been established for the position of Public Health Sanitarian. Candidates will be examined to determine whether they can perform the essential functions of the position.
