Role Overview

We are in search of a Staff Software Engineer with over 8 years of experience to lead backend development projects, enhance system performance, and scale our solutions effectively. In this position, you will work closely with our founders and a distinguished team that includes Forbes 30 under 30 entrepreneurs, Stanford engineers, and Berkeley MBA graduates, each with more than a decade of experience in top tech firms and innovative startups.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will not only contribute but also serve as a mentor and advocate for your team. Your daily tasks will involve tackling intricate backend challenges, engaging in hands-on coding, and utilizing your leadership abilities to drive product success in our dynamic startup environment. You will play a vital role in building and mentoring the engineering team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions that align with our ambitious objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. System Architecture and Design: You will be tasked with architecting and designing sophisticated systems, effectively scaling them, and experimenting with various technologies to determine optimal solutions while maintaining development velocity.
  2. Product Feature Engagement: Actively engage in product feature discussions, assessing the best architecture in line with business priorities, managing immediate deadlines, and planning for long-term development and scalability.
  3. Collaborative Technical Vision: Play an active role in shaping and refining our technical vision, ensuring it aligns with the overall company objectives and strategies.
  4. Process Enhancement: Continuously identify and implement enhancements in our engineering processes, tools, and systems, improving the scalability of our codebase, team productivity, and overall efficiency.
  5. Talent Acquisition and Growth: Contribute significantly to recruiting and interviewing new team members, developing interview questions that reflect our core values, and fostering a culture of excellence, speed, and humility.
  6. Mentorship and Development: Inspire and guide less experienced engineers and interns, cultivating a learning environment that promotes growth and innovation.
Qualifications
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, preferably with a track record of delivering high-quality Machine Learning-based products and features at scale.
  • Engineering Skills: Proven ability to translate business and product concepts into engineering solutions, demonstrating strong ownership and project leadership from inception to production scaling.
  • Growth-Oriented Mindset: A commitment to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a continuous desire to grow, master your craft, and contribute to a team that values excellence, speed, and innovation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Product-Focused Approach: A positive, solution-oriented mindset towards innovative product development.
  • Hybrid Work Adaptability: This is a hybrid role, requiring on-site work at least 4 days a week.
  • Advanced Python Skills: Extensive experience with Python, particularly in developing highly scalable solutions, is highly regarded. Your capability to leverage Python for solving complex problems and scaling systems efficiently will distinguish you.
  • Frontend Technology Knowledge: Familiarity with React and other frontend technologies. Candidates who can connect backend scalability with frontend innovation, delivering seamless user experiences, will be highly valued.
  • Machine Learning Development Experience: Proven experience in developing machine learning applications.
