Currently, decentralized applications (dapps) deployed on general-purpose blockchains face competition from numerous other applications for network resources, which can result in congestion, elevated fees, or even network failures.

As a Staff Backend Engineer at Arbitrum, your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and developing backend systems to ensure the efficient functioning of Arbitrum's blockchains.
  • Creating secure and scalable crypto-native systems on EVM blockchains, such as indexers or relayers.
  • Taking charge of new features from ideation to deployment for Arbitrum's self-service infrastructure platform.
  • Leading data model design, ensuring databases are optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Engaging in performance tuning and optimization efforts, analyzing systems to reduce latency and enhance throughput.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship, including delivering constructive feedback and code reviews for junior engineers.
You may be a suitable candidate for this role if you possess:
  • A minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in developing backend services using Go or Typescript.
  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining robust APIs.
  • A strong capability to design efficient and scalable data models.
  • A solid background in cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS.
  • A keen understanding of security, including threat modeling and secure system architecture.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Familiarity with modern infrastructure technologies such as containerization, infrastructure as code, and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of the underlying mechanics of blockchains like Ethereum or Bitcoin.
  • Awareness of Ethereum scaling solutions, including sidechains or rollups.
  • Understanding of cryptographic principles, such as hash functions or digital signatures.
  • Experience in developing Ethereum dapps.
