The COMET contract oversees the comprehensive management and execution of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at a prominent space center. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of animal husbandry tools and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and sterilization.
- Manage the processing of animal feed, bedding, and necessary supplies, including the preparation of special diets.
- Conduct quality assurance tasks, such as maintaining logs and providing samples of sanitized feed and water.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as cage washers and sterilizers, adhering to manufacturer guidelines.
- Prepare necessary supplies and equipment for research activities.
- Handle animals during various procedures, including relocation, feeding, health assessments, and medication administration, while keeping a daily health log.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, performing regular stock checks and notifying supervisors of low inventory.
- Support personnel and scientists in maintaining sanitation protocols and assist with cleanroom attire procedures.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the facility, adhering to Specific Pathogen Free standards, including surface cleaning and microbial sampling.
- Conduct weekly safety inspections.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma along with one year of experience in a laboratory animal environment or related animal care experience.
- Must successfully complete a physical examination for primary animal contact.
- Understanding of ethical considerations in the care and use of research animals is essential.
- Ability to wear cleanroom attire for extended periods is required.
- Physical demands include climbing, standing for long durations, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in a hazardous environment and respond quickly in emergencies.
- Comfortable navigating uneven terrain and working in varying temperatures.
- Exposure to animal odors and allergens is expected.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment is necessary.
- Dependability and punctuality are crucial, with the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Work Environment:
- The role requires working both indoors and outdoors across the facility.
- Daily travel to different areas on-site may be necessary.
- All tasks must be performed safely, adhering to established safety protocols.
Additional Information:
