Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Driver, Mobile Go Center to join our team at Houston Community College (HCC). As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for safely operating a 42-foot gooseneck trailer and/or Student Service's Athletic Department vehicle (Minibus) over long distances and between facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections of assigned vehicles, adhering to Department of Transportation guidelines.
  • Safely operate tractor-trailer or minibus equipment in various configurations, with varying weights, under different climatic conditions, terrain, road conditions, and traffic situations.
  • Drop, hook, spot, switch, and interchange equipment; hook and unhook trailers from trucks.
  • Transport the Mobile Go Center trailer or minibus to and from events, setting up and storing equipment as needed.
  • Ensure all inspections and scheduled maintenance are performed on Department vehicles, maintaining accurate records.
  • Perform data entry work, including maintenance reports, event activity reports, and student activity reports.
  • Check cargo at the company terminal, properly securing or re-securing cargo as required.
  • Maintain driver daily logs in accordance with D.O.T. and Company requirements.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, including inspection reports, accident reports, and other required documents.
  • Perform roadside inspections as required by law, regulations, and Company policy.
  • Install and remove tire chains and fuel equipment, reporting any highway safety hazards observed.
  • Provide initial contact with public safety or law enforcement officials and the public in the event of traffic accidents or hazardous material incidents.
  • Clean and maintain vehicles as needed, including washing and polishing the exterior, tires, windows, and mirrors.
  • Assist with general student registration and help students navigate specific websites.
  • Ensure all students complete the Mobile Go Center Online Recruitment Card.
  • Assist with sending pre-formatted "Thank You" emails to Mobile Go Center event attendees.
  • Manage, inventory, and schedule athletic equipment as required.
  • Maintain the athletic vehicle's schedule to accommodate athletic events and student activities.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Truck Driving Certificate.
  • Meet all qualification requirements and not be disqualified under the US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Parts 383 and 391.
  • Hold a current, valid Class A CDL with requisite endorsements (Double/Triples, HAZMAT).
  • 3 years of recent driving experience as an over-the-road driver, operating similar equipment over similar terrains and road conditions for long distances in various traffic and weather conditions.
