Role Summary: The Vice President of Economic Mobility presents a unique opportunity for a socially conscious and collaborative professional to contribute to the development of NYCEDC's Economic Mobility framework. Within the Equity and Community Impact Division, this role will focus on cultivating and managing partnerships with businesses, workforce development organizations, community-based organizations, and academic institutions to further NYCEDC's strategic objectives across various sectors. These sectors encompass urban planning, community development, asset management, and industry expansion (including life sciences, technology, green economy, and creative industries).

This position will engage with a wide array of stakeholders and project types, primarily concentrating on executing EDC's place-based strategy and advancing workforce development initiatives in targeted neighborhoods. The selected candidate will oversee ongoing projects and identify new opportunities to align EDC's programs with local workforce development needs. A deep understanding of the workforce development landscape, including current trends and key players, is essential, along with a commitment to enhancing access to economic mobility for disadvantaged communities and underrepresented populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Establish connections with workforce development service providers and community organizations to promote EDC initiatives and explore collaborative opportunities.
    • Coordinate with essential stakeholders, including relevant city agencies and advocacy groups, to ensure cohesive workforce development efforts.
  • Program Management:
    • Oversee project management frameworks, timelines, and deliverables.
    • Lead the execution of the organization's economic mobility initiatives and cross-departmental engagement strategies.
  • Research:
    • Conduct comprehensive quantitative and qualitative research to formulate data-driven insights and actionable recommendations for complex challenges.
  • Partnership Development:
    • Create partnership strategies and proposals based on an assessment of potential partners' missions, objectives, and alignment with EDC's goals.
  • Communication:
    • Provide expert consultation to project teams on workforce-related topics, including place-based strategies and industry-specific workforce needs.
    • Develop and present reports and presentations that effectively convey project progress, insights, and recommendations to diverse audiences.
    • Represent EDC at workforce development events, conferences, and community meetings, serving as an ambassador for the organization.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in workforce development, project management, and partnership building.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including proficiency in verbal, written, and public speaking.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong professional relationships with senior stakeholders and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strategic thinker with a holistic perspective and the ability to devise innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage complex projects under tight deadlines while delivering effective solutions.
  • Skilled in creating professional presentations and concise project updates.
  • Quantitative analysis skills are advantageous, including experience with financial models and data interpretation.
  • Expertise in equitable economic development is preferred.
  • Experience in strategy, management consulting, public policy, social enterprise, or innovation is highly desirable.
  • Residency in New York City is required within a specified timeframe after hiring.
