Civil Superintendent Job Description

The Civil Superintendent plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success and safety of our projects. This critical field leadership position oversees the construction of civil projects, providing guidance to field foremen, and ensuring the successful completion of trade work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety and Risk Management: Assist in implementing project-specific safety and accident prevention programs, maintaining safe work areas through regular job-site inspections.
  • Leadership and Coordination: Lead McCarthy's Task Hazard Analysis (THA) process, implement all safety and EEO/Affirmative Action programs, and schedule and manage multiple crews performing various tasks across the project site.
  • Project Logistics: Develop a project site logistics plan, comprehend contract drawings/specifications, and communicate with owners, inspectors, and other trades.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources, plan activities, review work, and manage consumables/equipment, including compiling a comprehensive bill of materials and coordinating deliveries.
  • Performance Management: Manage McCarthy's field personnel to achieve optimum performance, review and understand material budgets, and monitor project costs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Quality and Safety Leadership: Provide leadership in quality process, safety, and accident prevention programs, and document daily construction activities.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Chair weekly subcontractor coordination meetings, issue and maintain short-term schedules, and assist Project Engineers in reviewing Shop Drawings and Submittals.
  • Estimating and Preconstruction: Assist Estimating in bidding opportunities and Preconstruction services, assist in developing detailed CPM Schedules, and assist in developing Detailed Scope of Work.
Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of applicable field leadership experience in underground utility installation.
  • Experience with self-perform large-scale civil and underground utility projects.
  • Experience with HCSS/Heavy Jobs, Procore, or Bluebeam a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or other a plus.
  • Previous experience directing and coordinating multiple crews and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of civil construction principles/practices required.
