Job Summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a skilled Traffic Control Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will be responsible for ensuring that signs are constructed and maintained in compliance with Texas Uniform Traffic Control devices.

Responsibilities
  • Sign Construction and Maintenance: Construct, fabricate, and erect signs in compliance with Texas Code.
  • Sign Inspection and Replacement: Drive roads to inspect the condition of existing road signs, replace damaged, destroyed, or disfigured signs, and report the condition of roads and bridges during sign inspection.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain current records of all signs erected and replaced, and update sign inventory.
  • Barricade Maintenance: Fabricate and maintain barricades.
  • Material Procurement: Recommend and order materials and equipment required for sign maintenance.
  • Technical Knowledge: Review technical specifications for signs and maintain current knowledge of revisions to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Equipment Management: Sign for and be held financially accountable for equipment issued.
  • Additional Responsibilities: May stripe roads as necessary, plan, assign, review, and supervise the work of part-time/summer help or sign and carpentry crews, assist others with their duties, participate in on-call schedules, and participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED.
  • Experience: Six months of job-related experience.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees.
  • Ability to Follow Instructions: Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Commercial Driver's License: Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License or obtained within six months.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Control Devices: Working knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
