Position Overview:

This role is dedicated to executing essential and timely follow-up and case management services for newborns and infants identified with abnormal screening results. The primary objective is to guarantee that infants with hearing impairments receive prompt identification, diagnosis, and treatment. Responsibilities include evaluating laboratory results, hospital hearing screening outcomes, and diagnostic audiology findings, while meticulously documenting all actions within the laboratory management information system. Additionally, this position involves coordinating follow-up efforts among physicians, hospitals, parents, and testing facilities to ensure appropriate and timely care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct timely follow-up and case management for newborns with abnormal hearing screening results.
  • Analyze test outcomes to determine necessary follow-up actions.
  • Facilitate coordination among healthcare providers, hospitals, parents, and testing centers to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Document all activities in patient records and laboratory management databases to maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare reports as required.
  • Engage in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, including project planning and protocol reviews to enhance program efficiency.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation strategies for both new and ongoing disorders to ensure program integrity.
  • Participate in partner meetings, follow-up team discussions, and training sessions to promote best practices in newborn screening.
  • Assist with dried blood spot screening follow-up.
  • Provide customer service to healthcare professionals, parents, and external partners regarding screening results.
  • Support educational events related to newborn screening in healthcare settings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned relevant to the role.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Medical terminology and genetics.
  • Database management and record-keeping practices.
  • Laboratory and audiological testing procedures, including interpretation of results.
  • Case management protocols related to newborn screening.
  • Follow-up procedures for various metabolic and genetic disorders.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methodologies.

Skills in:

  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Analysis and interpretation of medical test results.
  • Engagement with medical professionals and the public with sensitivity and active listening.
  • Proficient computer operation.

Ability to:

  • Understand and apply the objectives and standards of the Newborn Screening Program.
  • Make informed decisions and collaborate effectively under challenging circumstances.
  • Gather and document information accurately through various communication channels.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Support a diverse workforce and promote an inclusive work atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in a health-related field is required, with a preference for candidates possessing experience in social services or healthcare-related case management.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

A valid Driver's License is required for this position.
