JOB HOURS: 25 hours per week (Daytime hours may vary to ensure appropriate coverage of classroom and transportation. Occasional evening hours may be required.)
JOB LOCATION: Head Start Center
JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Teacher Aide plays a vital role in supporting the Master Teacher and Teacher Assistant in executing developmentally appropriate activities for preschool-aged children. Responsibilities include assisting during mealtimes, engaging in classroom setup and cleanup, ensuring the safety of children, and supporting the daily operations within the classroom environment. The Aide also serves as a bus monitor during assigned transportation runs.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
For Position Grade 1: GED or high school diploma with a commitment to complete a preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education within two years of employment.
For Position Grade 2: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education; or a GED/high school diploma with a current preschool CDA.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience in an early childhood setting is preferred.
SKILLS:
- Fundamental understanding of child development and the ability to engage with young children
- Supportive and non-judgmental approach when working with families
- Maintain confidentiality regarding program and agency-related information
- Ability to observe and document children's behaviors
- Collaborate effectively with all staff to deliver quality programming for children and families
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
- Act as an advocate for children and their families
- Implement an appropriate educational program for a group of children and their families in alignment with the Head Start philosophy and performance standards
OTHER: Preference will be given to qualified internal candidates. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory medical examination and TB test; clearance from the NYS Child Abuse Central Register and fingerprint clearance from the NYS Office of Children & Family Services at the time of hire. Employees must sign an affidavit annually confirming they have not been indicated in a child abuse or neglect case within the past year. The organization maintains a Substance-Free workplace and conducts random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
