Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse II is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN II provides care to patients via the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment and instrumentation, and other healthcare team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct ongoing systematic assessments of patients' physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, as well as their nutritional needs, pain levels, and education requirements.
  • Develop and implement goal-directed care plans in a timely and effective manner.
  • Deliver care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner, prioritizing patient needs and utilizing available resources.
  • Identify and address patients' learning needs, promoting education and empowerment.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patients' rights, age-specific needs, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
  • Provide and coordinate care for patients and patient populations, establishing effective working relationships with healthcare team members.
  • Acknowledge staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs, delegating tasks and coordinating duties as needed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by healthcare team members.
  • Utilize effective communication methods and skills, adhering to established protocols and lines of authority.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safety principles, remaining calm and composed in emergency situations.
  • Take responsibility for own professional practice, participating in staff development activities and demonstrating a commitment to service orientation.
  • Participate in unit and department performance improvement activities, contributing to the development of solutions and best practices.
  • Identify and address problems effectively, demonstrating a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility in resolving staffing issues, floating to other units as needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities, navigating electronic medical record systems and other healthcare technologies.
Requirements:
  • 1 year of recent experience in oncology practice, including the ability to work with chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program and completion of the current hours required by the BRN of RN student clinical experience; or Graduate of registered nursing program and either: 1) 2000 hours of RN experience in clinical area of specialty from a licensed acute care facility within three (3) years of graduation; or 2) graduate of an accredited licensed vocational nursing program that includes clinical student experience in acute care and has worked 2000 hours as a licensed vocational nurse within the clinical area of specialty within three (3) years before graduation.
  • Registered Nurse License (California) and Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in specialty preferred.
