Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible for the care and accountability of a designated group of patients over a specified time period. The RN II delivers patient care through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment, and collaboration with other healthcare team members.

This role includes participation in patient and family education and providing leadership in collaboration with healthcare team members to uphold professional nursing standards in the clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts ongoing assessments and data collection systematically, focusing on physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive aspects, including nutrition, pain management, patient/family education, family involvement, and advocacy.
  • Develops a goal-oriented care plan when appropriate.
  • Implements care consistently and skillfully.
  • Prioritizes patient care based on essential needs and available resources.
  • Identifies and addresses patient/family learning needs.
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient/family rights and diverse needs.
  • Coordinates care for patients and patient populations.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Delegates appropriately and coordinates the duties of healthcare team members.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by team members.
  • Utilizes effective communication methods and skills, adhering to appropriate lines of authority.
  • Applies safety principles as identified within the institution.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations, following established protocols.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional practice.
  • Participates in staff development activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management.
  • Engages in performance improvement activities as directed.
  • Participates in nursing research activities as requested.
  • Identifies and resolves problems effectively.
  • Exhibits a service-oriented philosophy in all interactions.
  • Provides data for staffing decisions and demonstrates flexibility in staffing issues.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer use for documentation and communication.
  • Performs additional related duties as necessary.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team to formulate goal-directed care plans.
  • Documents patient care and unit activities accurately and timely.
  • Maintains all required licenses, certifications, and professional development as per departmental standards.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum of one year recent experience as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program and completion of required clinical hours; or equivalent experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of RN scope of practice.
  • Commitment to service orientation.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Successful completion of or enrollment in the KP Emergency Nursing Course or equivalent training.
