GENERAL
DESCRIPTION:

This position is a vital role within the emergency response framework, tasked with delivering advanced pre-hospital life-saving interventions, emergency medical care, and rescue operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


The following outlines the primary responsibilities associated with this role, though it is not an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned.

Individuals may perform other duties as assigned.

  • Delivers Basic and Advanced Life Support in accordance with established protocols and regulations, ensuring compliance with applicable medical standards.
  • Administers emergency medical services and advanced life support interventions.
Under the guidance of a licensed physician and following established protocols, the incumbent will:

defibrillate patients in critical condition; administer intravenous fluids; perform advanced airway management techniques; and provide necessary injections as permitted by medical regulations.


  • May occasionally serve as an EMT on a Basic Life Support unit as directed by supervisory personnel. Assumes the role of ambulance operator as required.
  • Facilitates both emergency and non-emergency patient transfers as assigned.
  • Completes essential documentation, including patient care reports and daily operational logs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintains cleanliness and operational readiness of the ambulance and medical equipment, including inventory management.
  • Ensures the assigned station is kept orderly and professional.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and maintains a professional environment that reflects the organization's standards.
  • Consistently complies with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Responds positively to organizational changes and performs related tasks as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient understanding of CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and the operation of life-saving equipment.
  • Awareness of patient care techniques and safety measures.
  • Competence in defensive driving techniques.
  • Ability to navigate and understand local roadway systems.
  • Familiarity with state safety regulations and privileges related to emergency response.
  • Understanding of traffic laws and regulations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Adherence to medical directives and protocols.
  • Capability to perform minor maintenance on emergency vehicles.
  • Legible handwriting for documentation purposes.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:
This role requires regular physical exertion, including lifting up to 10 pounds frequently and over 100 pounds occasionally; work involves standing, sitting, using hands for various tasks, and may require lifting heavy loads. Vision and hearing capabilities are essential for effective communication and operational tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Certification as a Firefighter 2 is required within one year of employment.

OTHER JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
Essential during disaster response situations.
