Job Summary

The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Principal Practitioner. This position requires a strong background in child protection and a proven ability to lead and manage teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Assessment and Analysis: Proactively identify and analyze patterns associated with risk assessment and articulate expert analysis to support and extend practitioner skills.
  • Case Planning Review and Case Management: Effectively make decisions in context of review and appeals and analyze case management across the team.
  • Critical Inquiry: Implement strategies for continuous improvement in using evidence-based frameworks across teams, programs, and practice; display broad thinking, drawing on research and literature to support evidence-informed practice.
Accountabilities

The Principal Practitioner will be accountable for:

  • Providing High-Level Expertise: Offer secondary consultation and live supervision to staff, facilitate staff mentoring and practice development, and provide leadership in the implementation of continuous improvement strategies based on clinical best practice.
  • Transportation and Travel: The transportation of children is a requirement of this role, and a valid driver's license and willingness to travel, including in-country regions, is essential.
  • Aboriginal Culture and Legislative Requirements: Possess an understanding of Aboriginal culture and demonstrate an understanding of the legislative, policy, and practice requirements relating to Aboriginal children, families, and communities, including the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle and the programs and initiatives that support its implementation in child protection practice.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • Have a strong understanding of child protection principles and practices.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel.
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as social work or child protection.
  • Experience working in a child protection or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
