Role Summary:

The primary responsibility of a Certified Phlebotomy Technician is to support various assigned tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and recommend workflow improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform blood draws and accurately label specimens.
- Centrifuge specimens and maintain records of equipment.
- Update patient information and ensure proper decontamination procedures.
- Collect and store specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles.
- Comprehend and execute all physician orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes for accuracy.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as dictated by test orders.
- Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Package specimens appropriately for transport.
- Store samples at required temperatures and in suitable containers, ensuring proper labeling.
- Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Participate in annual departmental training sessions.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and relay laboratory results as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the respective state.
- At least 6 months of experience in a high-paced laboratory or hospital environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.

Required Certifications:

- WA state Phlebotomy license is mandatory.
