Position SummaryThis role is essential for overseeing the daily care and management of aquatic life within the facility. The primary focus is on ensuring the health and welfare of all animals, maintaining their habitats, and fostering a collaborative environment within the Animal Care Department.
Duties & Responsibilities- Execute daily operations within the Animal Care Department to uphold the highest standards of safety, courtesy, education, efficiency, and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with management to analyze sales data, customer satisfaction, and market trends to forecast needs and propose strategies to enhance revenue and guest experiences.
- Represent the organization positively to professional agencies, institutions, and various committees.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations as per local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Supervise animal care practices and ensure habitats comply with facility-specific policies and procedures.
- Implement measures to minimize waste, control costs, and accurately report expenses.
- Assist in the development of new habitats and educational initiatives to enhance revenue and guest engagement.
- Maintain comprehensive electronic records regarding animal health, water quality, system maintenance, and inventory reports.
- Monitor animal health, diagnose diseases, and address water quality issues.
- Communicate any health concerns to the relevant teams to formulate and execute care and treatment plans.
- Adhere to all policy and procedure documentation.
- Assist in emergency situations to mitigate damage, loss, or injury to guests, team members, animals, or property.
- Work with the Guest Experience Department to ensure habitats and programs are engaging, educational, and entertaining for diverse audiences.
- Collaborate closely with volunteers and educators to provide outstanding guest service and interaction.
- Fulfill daily diving responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two years of experience in animal husbandry is required.
- Experience with freshwater species, corals, jellyfish, and reptiles is preferred.
- PADI Rescue Diver certification or equivalent is preferred.
- First Aid, Emergency O2, and AED certifications are preferred.
- A degree in wildlife or marine biology or relevant experience is required.
- Experience with freshwater and saltwater aquariums, reptiles, amphibians, birds, or small mammals is essential.
- Experience in a public aquarium setting is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent listening, presentation, and decision-making abilities.

- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to effectively read, listen, and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
- Hearing and visual acuity to observe and identify signs of emergency situations.
- Ability to meet the physical, visual, and auditory requirements of the working conditions.
- All team members are required to comply with the standards, rules, and regulations established by the organization, which may be updated periodically.
- Due to the nature of the leisure industry, team members may be required to work varying schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
