POSITION SUMMARY

The Culinary Preparation Specialist is essential in facilitating kitchen operations by preparing ingredients and ensuring an efficient setup for meal service. Reporting directly to the Program Chef and Lead Line Cook, this role encompasses completing designated preparation tasks, maintaining a tidy and organized kitchen and dining area, and adhering to established food safety protocols. This position demands punctuality, the ability to follow instructions, and a genuine passion for culinary arts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Lead Line Cook and Program Chef in food preparation for service.
  • Exhibit proficiency in knife skills, proper sanitation practices, and hygiene standards.
  • Ensure compliance with food storage and handling regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the preparation area, kitchen, and dining space.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and familiarity with standard kitchen equipment.
  • Be prepared to stand for extended periods as necessary.

Key Duties

  • Assist the Program Chef by chopping vegetables, washing ingredients, and ensuring that all equipment and appliances are clean and ready for use.
  • Help with dishwashing and consistently uphold a clean and sanitary work environment.
  • Prepare salads, dressings, and sauces in accordance with established recipes.
  • Retrieve food items from storage as directed by the Program Chef.
  • Ensure proper food storage when items are not in use.
  • Collaborate with the Chef to prepare ingredients in advance.
  • Learn and implement cooking techniques and methods vital for effective kitchen operations.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: A minimum of 1 year of kitchen experience is preferred.

Confidentiality: Must handle confidential information responsibly.

Mental/Visual Demands: The role requires normal mental and visual capabilities.

Physical Requirements: The position involves handling, feeling, and reaching with hands and arms, along with frequent squatting, bending, and moving. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly.

Work Environment: The role may involve working in various weather conditions.

Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends, is necessary based on operational needs.
