This role involves floating between various locations in Chicago and its suburbs. A clean driving record is required.

Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not mandatory.

The Certified Blood Collection Specialist will be tasked with performing blood draws and conducting timed glucose tolerance tests. Responsibilities also include processing specimens (including pap smears, cultures, urine samples, and those collected by office personnel) within our computerized system. Additionally, the specialist will package specimens for courier pickup and maintain inventory levels. Exceptional customer service skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
- Execute blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and maintain accurate records.
- Collect and store specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using both straight and butterfly needles.
- Ensure complete understanding of all physician orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes for accuracy.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by testing protocols.
- Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens appropriately for transport, ensuring compliance with temperature requirements and labeling protocols.
- Understand and adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Participate in annual departmental training sessions.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.
- At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a high-paced laboratory or hospital environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
