Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Director of Upward Bound Piner, the Educational Outreach Advisor for Academic Programs delivers essential academic support services, advising, community resources, and information regarding TRIO program opportunities to targeted students in grades 6 through 12, their parents, and the broader community. The role involves executing moderately complex professional student service tasks utilizing various advising strategies and academic support services to promote student retention and success through graduation. Additionally, the advisor collaborates with team members to provide general advising services, conduct new student orientations, and facilitate academic success workshops. The incumbent also engages in student recruitment activities and develops outreach and academic advising plans tailored to the identified needs of Academic Talent Search program participants.
Key QualificationsThis role necessitates the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related field. Specialized experience that demonstrates the acquisition and application of the required knowledge and abilities may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A minimum of two years of professional experience in admissions, student services, or a related area is preferred, with evidence of competence and potential for growth. A master’s degree in a relevant field may replace one year of professional experience. Experience and/or sensitivity in working with a diverse student population, particularly those from low-income, first-generation backgrounds, is highly desirable. Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required, with knowledge of Google Suite, databases, student success software, student information systems, and PeopleSoft being preferred. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is also preferred.
Salary and BenefitsSalary placement is contingent upon qualifications and experience, with a maximum monthly salary of $4,610. This is a full-time, fixed-term, exempt position, with renewal contingent upon performance, successful maintenance of grant funding, and administrative considerations. The university reserves the right to conclude this appointment earlier than the scheduled end date.
This position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation, and sick leave. Additionally, employees receive 15 paid holidays annually and a Personal Holiday that can be utilized at any time during the year.
