Position Overview

The Shell USA Retail Team is in search of a Retail Category Specialist, dedicated to the Automotive Category Products segment. This role entails delivering strategic insights, industry knowledge, and category expertise, while conducting Point-of-Sale and Plan-O-Gram/Assortment evaluations and recommendations. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with buyers, directors, and various customer personnel to proactively uncover trends and opportunities that align with the strategic objectives of both the customer and Shell. This position involves working with proprietary and confidential customer POS data, syndicated information, public resources, panel data, and tailored insights to support strategic decision-making and operational execution.

This role demands robust analytical skills and a commitment to continuous learning, paired with exceptional communication abilities. Experience with Walmart and a solid understanding of retail point-of-sale dynamics is advantageous.

Ideal candidates should be located in the Northwest Arkansas area to facilitate regular in-person interactions with Walmart. This position will primarily be home-office based, with occasional domestic travel for internal meetings or customer engagements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Category Reviews to identify trends affecting consumer behavior, purchasing patterns, and the influence of micro and macro-economic factors, providing the customer with essential information to optimize assortment and enhance category growth.
  • Collaboratively initiate and manage insights projects that directly engage customer and Shell resources to create and deliver actionable shopper/consumer insights addressing customer priorities.
  • Play a direct role in the annual account Plan-o-gram (POG) performance assessment and planning process, including performance tracking at the POG, Segment, Item, and store levels.
  • Generate and present POG recommendations backed by POS analysis, industry data, and market knowledge.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Must possess legal authorization to work in the USA on a full-time basis for any employer other than the current one.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7+ years of experience in a comparable role; category management and retail experience are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, ProSpace or other space planning tools, Power BI, and data visualization tools.
  • Outstanding communication skills, encompassing verbal, written, and presentation capabilities.
  • Highly adept in analytics and generating actionable insights from data.
  • Experience with syndicated data sources such as Circana/IRI; familiarity with Luminate is preferred.
Additional Information: This is a remote role that includes 10-25% business travel within the United States.

The compensation range for this position is $122,000 to $182,000 annually. Individual pay will be determined based on various factors, including relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or part-time employees of the Company, insurance coverage options include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing mothers and 8 weeks for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also provides other compensation such as financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, with some roles qualifying for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
