Job Description

**About the Role**

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Wireless System and Algorithm Design Engineer to join our growing wireless silicon development team at Apple. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative wireless communication systems, including physical layer and cross layers algorithms, to enable emerging applications and wireless system products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate innovative wireless communication systems to enable emerging applications and wireless system products.
  • Implement system models and investigate innovative algorithms for performance enhancements, design and validate them to allow performance sign-off and enable RTL development.
  • Implement system models for the wireless communication system, RF/circuits impairments. Design method/algorithm to alleviate those impairments by calibration, pre-equalization, canceller, and/or pre-distortion techniques.
  • Define the control procedures of the physical layer hardware modules to achieve robust and optimal performance of the Modem in congested radio environment with Co-Existing wireless communication systems.
  • Work with digital designers to realize these methods with power and area efficient digital implementations.
  • Work with firmware designers to realize these methods with high efficiency software implementation, and possibly with hardware acceleration.
  • Bring up, test, characterize and optimize real silicon in lab.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience on design and develop the physical layer core algorithms, such as MIMO signal estimation and detection, channel estimation, equalization, coding theory, beamforming, signal estimation and detection, timing recovery, frequency synchronization, automatic gain control, etc.
  • Track record in applying innovative signal processing, communication theory, information theory techniques to resolve the challenging problems of the physical layer design (transmitter/receiver) for modern wireless communication systems.
  • Deep understanding of communication theory, information theory, & signal processing related algorithms design.
  • Strong analytical capability to develop the best-in-class solution in terms of performance, power, and area.
  • Deep understanding of components/modules composited of wireless communication systems. The possible impairments from those components and the corresponding calibration and impairment reduction methods/algorithms, digital predistortion, PAPR reduction algorithms, Tx power control, etc.
  • Algorithm development experience with hardware and firmware friendly designs.
  • C/C++ and Matlab for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation of physical layer.
  • Knowledge in existing protocols: 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, 802.11ad/ay or Bluetooth/BLE.

Education and Experience

  • BS and 10+ years of relevant experience required. MS and PhD preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
