In this technical capacity, you will play a pivotal role within a silicon design group, focusing on wireless system design for cutting-edge wireless SoC products.

Your responsibilities will include leading development efforts and collaborating closely with various teams to establish specifications and design details, execute pre-silicon validations, conduct post-silicon assessments, and perform performance and reliability analyses to ensure that our solutions meet requirements and deliver exceptional user experiences.

The emphasis of your work will be on enabling next-generation applications, which may involve the development of advanced architectures, PHY/MAC cross-layer designs, and radio/PHY integrations aimed at enhancing latency, improving medium efficiency, managing interference and coexistence in crowded environments, extending ranges, reducing power consumption, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate state-of-the-art wireless communication systems for emerging applications.
  • Implement system models and explore innovative architectures, protocols, and algorithms in PHY/MAC cross-layer to mitigate the effects of congested radio environments and achieve reliable performance.
  • Collaborate with product teams to develop novel architectures, protocols, integrated systems, and algorithms that meet the requirements of emerging applications in crowded radio environments.
  • Conduct simulations to validate the effectiveness of designed architectures, protocols, and algorithms, and confirm them on emulation systems.
  • Work alongside firmware designers to implement software components of these methods with high efficiency.
  • Collaborate with digital designers to realize the hardware aspects of these methods with power and area-efficient digital implementations.
  • Bring up, test, and characterize the designed algorithms, optimizing performance to meet targeted specifications with production quality on real silicon in laboratory settings.
Essential Qualifications:
Extensive experience in developing wireless communication systems, including algorithm design, system architecture, and protocol integration.
In-depth knowledge of wireless communication systems (OFDM/MIMO, etc.), with hands-on experience in laboratory testing and characterization.

Strong understanding of communication theory and signal processing algorithms (such as timing recovery, signal estimation and detection, automatic gain control, RF impairment estimation and correction, channel estimation, equalization, and coding theory). Experience with multi-radio coexistence management and system optimization in congested radio environments through cross-layer designs is essential. Familiarity with modem and microprocessor architecture is beneficial.

Experience with firmware design is a plus.
Proficiency in Matlab, Python, and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation is required.

Familiarity with existing protocols:
5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, 802.11ad/ay, or Bluetooth/BLE. Experience with emulation systems and virtual platforms is advantageous.

Experience in bringing up real silicon in laboratory environments, as well as utilizing laboratory equipment (such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, etc.) is a plus.

Education & Experience:
A Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience is required.

A Master's degree or PhD is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:
At Apple, base pay is just one component of our total compensation package, determined within a specified range. This structure allows for progression as you grow and develop within your role.

The base pay range for this position is between $175,800 and $312,200, with actual pay depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.

Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
