Cupertino, California, United States Apple Full time

Overview:

Role Overview:
At Apple, our mission is to create products that enhance the lives of our users. If you thrive on tackling complex challenges, this position within our Wireless Silicon Design team offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of our products, impacting millions of customers worldwide.

As wireless communication technologies advance, we are tasked with developing innovative solutions that cater to the next generation of applications, ensuring superior user experiences.

Our objectives include designing architectures, protocols, integrated systems, and algorithms that deliver robust performance, addressing the challenges posed by increased device density and diverse wireless technologies.

In this pivotal role, you will be integral to a silicon design team, focusing on wireless system architecture for cutting-edge wireless SoC products.

Your responsibilities will involve leading development efforts and collaborating with various teams to establish specifications and design details, conduct pre-silicon validations, manage post-silicon bring-up, and perform performance and reliability assessments to ensure our solutions meet user expectations.

The work will emphasize enabling next-generation applications through the development of advanced architectures, PHY/MAC cross-layer designs, and radio/PHY integrations, aimed at improving latency, medium efficiency, interference management, extended range, and power consumption.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate advanced wireless communication systems for emerging applications.
  • Develop system models and explore innovative architectures, protocols, and algorithms in PHY/MAC cross-layer to enhance performance in congested radio environments.
  • Collaborate with product teams to devise novel architectures and integrated systems that fulfill the requirements of next-generation applications.
  • Conduct simulations to validate the effectiveness of designed architectures and protocols on emulation systems.
  • Partner with firmware designers to implement efficient software solutions.
  • Work alongside digital designers to achieve power and area-efficient hardware implementations.
  • Bring up, test, and characterize designed algorithms, optimizing performance to meet production quality standards on real silicon.
Key Qualifications:
Extensive experience in wireless communication systems, including algorithm design, system architecture, and protocol integration.
In-depth knowledge of wireless communication systems (e.g., OFDM/MIMO) with practical experience in lab testing and characterization.

Strong understanding of communication theory and signal processing algorithms (e.g., timing recovery, signal estimation, automatic gain control, RF impairment estimation, channel estimation, equalization, and coding theory). Experience with multi-radio coexistence management and system optimization in congested environments through cross-layer designs is essential.

Familiarity with modem and microprocessor architecture is preferred. Experience in firmware design is a plus.

Proficiency in Matlab, Python, and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation is required.

Knowledge of Existing Protocols:
Familiarity with 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11 standards, and Bluetooth/BLE is essential. Experience with emulation systems and virtual platforms is advantageous.

Hands-on experience with real silicon bring-up and lab equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, signal generators) is preferred.

Education & Experience:
A Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience is required. A Master's degree or PhD is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:
At Apple, base pay is just one part of our total compensation package, which is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, influenced by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees can also participate in discretionary employee stock programs and are eligible for stock awards and discounts through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

Benefits Include:

Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, product discounts, and reimbursement for educational expenses related to career advancement.

This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments, as well as relocation assistance. Learn more about Apple Benefits.
