Our objectives include developing architectures, protocols, integrated systems, and algorithms to ensure robust performance, addressing the requirements for future applications amidst practical wireless medium conditions, where we anticipate increased congestion from a larger number of devices and co-existing wireless technologies.


In this technical capacity, you will be at the forefront of a silicon design team, responsible for the wireless system design of cutting-edge wireless SoC products.

Your focus will be on leading developments and collaborating closely with various teams to establish specifications and design details, implementation, conducting pre-silicon validations, post-silicon integration, performance and reliability assessments, and optimizations to ensure the solutions meet requirements and deliver satisfying user experiences.

The emphasis of your work to enable next-generation applications may involve developing advanced architectures, PHY/MAC cross-layer designs, and cross-functional protocols and algorithms, enhancing latency, improving medium efficiency, managing interference and coexistence in congested environments, extending ranges, reducing power consumption, and more.

Core Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and simulating state-of-the-art wireless communication systems for future applications.
  • Implementing system models and exploring innovative architectures, protocols, and algorithms in PHY/MAC cross-layer to mitigate the effects of congested radio environments and achieve robust performance.
  • Collaborating with product teams to devise novel architectures, protocols, integrated systems, and algorithms that meet the requirements of emerging applications in congested radio environments.
  • Conducting simulations to validate the effectiveness of designed architectures, protocols, and algorithms, and verifying them on emulation systems.
  • Working with firmware designers to implement the software components of these methods with high-efficiency software solutions.
  • Collaborating with digital designers to realize the hardware aspects of these methods with power and area-efficient digital implementations.
  • Bringing up, testing, and characterizing the designed algorithms, optimizing performance to achieve targeted results with production quality on real silicon in the lab.
Key Qualifications:
Extensive experience in developing wireless communication systems, including algorithm design, system architecture, and protocol integration.
In-depth knowledge of wireless communication systems (OFDM/MIMO, etc.), with hands-on experience in lab testing and characterization.

Profound understanding of communication theory and signal processing algorithms (such as timing recovery, signal estimation and detection, automatic gain control, RF impairment estimation and correction, channel estimation, equalization, and coding theory). Experience with multi-radio coexistence management and system optimization in congested radio environments through cross-layer designs. Familiarity with modem and microprocessor architecture is essential.

Experience with firmware design is advantageous.
Proficiency in Matlab or Python and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.

Familiarity with Existing Protocols:
Knowledge of 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, 802.11ad/ay, or Bluetooth/BLE. Experience with emulation systems and virtual platforms is a plus.

Experience in bringing up real silicon in the lab, as well as using lab equipment (such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, etc.) is also a plus.

Education & Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience is required.

A Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:
At Apple, base pay is just one component of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides opportunities for growth as you develop within your role.

The base pay range for this position is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the chance to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.

Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
