Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ESG Compliance Specialist to join our team at Sonoco. As a key member of our Controllership organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for regulatory compliance related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a global ESG reporting framework, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, including CSRDs, SEC's ESG proposal, and California disclosure requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Sustainability, Human Resources, Legal, and Internal Audit teams, to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
  • Design and implement processes to capture and report ESG data across the company's global locations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor and analyze emerging ESG regulatory requirements, providing recommendations for updates to our reporting framework.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement ESG-related training programs, ensuring employees understand the importance of ESG reporting.
  • Lead global ESG reporting efforts, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintaining effective relationships with auditors.
  • Develop and maintain a talent pipeline to support ESG reporting efforts, identifying and developing key employees to take on leadership roles.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • 12+ years of cumulative experience in a big four setting or a combination of big four and progressive industry experience.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience working with ESG reporting standards, such as GRI, SASB, and TCFD.
  • Strong understanding of ESG issues and willingness to stay up-to-date with the latest ESG guidelines and developments.
  • Deep expertise in developing processes and implementing internal controls.
  • Proven track record of managing and implementing multiple projects, consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent business acumen, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of SOX compliance and SEC reporting, US GAAP.
  • Experience working in a global, matrix organization.

  • Competitive base salary range: $141,600 - $169,920.
  • Annual target incentive percentage of base salary.
