Nighttime Janitor - Full Time

Mennonite Village is a distinguished not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) with a rich history. We are currently in search of a dedicated Nighttime Janitor who will be accountable for the routine upkeep of floors and will conduct rounds throughout the premises twice per shift to deter unauthorized individuals using a vehicle provided by Mennonite Village. The employee is expected to exercise care, sound judgment, and safe work practices in all tasks. This role requires adherence to the established safety protocols, policies, and procedures of the Housekeeping Department while collaborating with fellow employees and residents.

Work Schedule: The hours of operation are from 9:30 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Thursday, and every other Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dry mopping of all hallways and communal areas.
  • Vacuuming of all entryway carpet mats.
  • Daily scrubbing of hallways and public spaces using the floor machine.
  • Maintenance of the floor machine, including cleaning and recharging.
  • Weekly buffing of all hallways.
  • Quarterly scrubbing and recoating of floors with wax.
  • Stripping and refinishing floors as necessary.
  • Coordinating with affected parties to schedule maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining an inventory of required supplies on the personal work cart and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Documenting completed tasks on provided forms each night and submitting them to the housekeeping supervisor.
  • Scheduling and cleaning nursing equipment such as wheelchairs and geri-chairs.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.

All employees must adhere to the standards and procedures outlined in the Mennonite Village Compliance and Privacy Program, as well as the Values and Expectations Statement. Employees are required to comply with HIPAA policies and report any breaches or violations to a supervisor. Immediate reporting of identified hazards or hazardous conditions to a supervisor is mandatory, as is the reporting of adverse events and near misses.

Training: Attendance at mandatory training on HIPAA and compliance is required annually.

Qualifications:

  • Supportive of the Mennonite Home philosophy.
  • Demonstrated expertise in floor maintenance and operation of related equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently under general guidelines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Physical capability to push equipment weighing up to 80 pounds, stoop, bend, lift equipment, and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures and odors.
  • Familiarity with Materials Safety Data Sheets for the proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
