Job Title: Attorney

Children's Law Center of California (CLC) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Attorney to join our Lancaster Attorney team. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality legal representation and advocacy to children and youth impacted by abuse and neglect.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to the legal representation of clients in dependency proceedings in the Antelope Valley Juvenile Court. This includes in-court and out-of-court representation of clients at all phases of dependency case proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive investigations and interviews throughout all phases of the proceedings on behalf of the client.
  • Provide guidance to clients on their legal rights, the legal process, and decisions related to child placement.
  • Analyze facts considering relevant legal considerations, prepare litigation strategy, and argue specific legal motions and pleadings.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and awareness of cultural differences to effectively communicate and advocate for clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborate closely with CLC colleagues, including social workers, case managers, and supporting staff.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training to stay informed about evolving issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal field and child welfare system.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in dependency law or trial experience is preferred.
  • Interest and proficiency in working with children and youth in diverse communities.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with children, teens, their families, and caregivers.
  • Maintain professional and effective relationships with court personnel, coworkers, and other CLC attorneys.
  • Have an inclusive, deeply human approach to clients' well-being.
  • Ability to convey legal arguments logically and effectively in oral and written form.

Essential Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor Degree and a member in good standing of the State Bar of California.
  • Knowledge of substantive and procedural dependency law and trial practice skills.
  • Attorneys must have a valid driver's license, reliable automobile, and automobile insurance.
