Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician to join our team at Correctional Medicine Associates. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide medical direction, oversight, and direct patient care in a correctional facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a range of professional medical services to inmates, including examinations, diagnoses, prescribing medications, and providing treatment and follow-up care.
  • Lead the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor, ensuring high-quality care and adherence to standards.
  • Monitor and review operations, maintaining the highest standards of care and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Interview inmates and make decisions on admissions, ensuring accurate assessments and effective care.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, contributing to individual health plans and ensuring seamless care coordination.
  • Direct unit treatment operations, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of medical services.
  • Perform minor and major surgeries as needed, maintaining the highest standards of care.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies, fostering collaboration and effective communication.
  • Utilize established policies and procedures, exercising sound independent judgment to meet responsibilities and perform duties.
  • Assist in the formulation of facility policy for the medical program, ensuring alignment with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Motivate and encourage staff to perform duties consistently with policy and procedures, promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Regularly evaluate the provision of medical services, preventing inappropriate use or duplication of services.
  • Monitor inmate hospitalizations, facilitating early release when clinically appropriate.
  • Closely monitor potential catastrophic illnesses, ensuring timely intervention and effective care.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and logs, ensuring confidentiality and security of medical records.
  • Audit medical files for documentation of provided services, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Evaluate and recommend methods to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health-related services.
  • Meet with outside hospital/agency administrators to ensure a close working relationship, promoting effective collaboration and communication.
  • Facilitate NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program, ensuring organizational efficiency and approved medical services.
  • Accept on-call status, ensuring 24/7 availability for medical emergencies.
  • Attend seminars, workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities, staying current with best practices and industry developments.
  • Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis, promoting health awareness and empowerment.
  • Communicate responsibilities, authorities, and accountability to direct subordinates, ensuring clear understanding and effective performance.
  • Conduct meetings with subordinate staff, attend scheduled staff meetings, and promote communications and consistency of operation between shifts in the medical unit.
  • Communicate effectively and coherently with administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the general public, exercising tact, diplomacy, understanding, fairness, firmness, and good judgment.
  • Read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents, and process such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons, and other legal writs.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years of age.
