Key Responsibilities
As an integral member of the patient care team, the Clinical Support Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring positive patient interactions, effective communication via phone, and accurate verification of patient information through interviews. Key duties include preparing patients for examinations by conducting preliminary assessments, measuring vital signs, and compiling patient history summaries.
This role also involves training and managing appointment scheduling, as well as performing routine tasks related to the collection and maintenance of patient demographics and insurance details.
- Welcomes patients, records vital signs, reviews current medications, and documents in medical records.
- Assists in tracking and monitoring department-specific metrics.
- Clarifies policies, procedures, or services to patients using clinical or administrative expertise, within the scope of practice.
- Prepares examination and procedure rooms according to patient needs.
- Oversees patient flow and assists with managing CS-Link message pools and standard operational procedures.
- Sanitizes and reprocesses equipment and supplies in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program and/or certification from a recognized Medical Assistant organization is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinical or medical office environment is preferred.
Licenses/Certification:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
- Medical Assistant certification and/or diploma is required.
