The state-supported living facilities cater to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who may be medically vulnerable or exhibit behavioral challenges.

These facilities provide campus-based direct services and support across 13 locations statewide.

The Support Specialist (SS) II collaborates within a team to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities in achieving their personal goals.

This encompasses routine and emergency care, treatment, and training for individuals with intellectual disabilities in diverse environments.

Responsibilities may vary and can include tasks such as grooming, bathing, feeding, monitoring and reporting on individuals' conditions and behaviors, engaging in meaningful interactions, and participating in tailored training and/or active treatment programs for both genders.

The SS documents pertinent information regarding individuals' daily activities, responses to various engagements, training progress, and any unusual occurrences.

Work involves routine tasks, with decision-making guided by training and support from professional staff on your team.

This role operates within a team framework, with oversight provided through supervision and training. You may also mentor new SS I staff and/or volunteer to take on a shift/team leadership role. This position may require driving a state-owned vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is essential, and you may be required to adhere to a specific shift schedule or, at times, a rotating schedule, extended shifts, and/or overtime as per agency leave policies while performing other assigned duties.

Implements habilitation and rehabilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, and treatment programs tailored to individual needs.

Teaches essential life skills such as feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene.
Engages in the development of each individual's treatment plan.

Monitors individuals for signs of illness, injury, medication reactions, or other conditions necessitating medical attention and accurately documents observations.

Reports significant changes in individuals' physical conditions or behaviors and records relevant information as needed.
Assists in transporting individuals for scheduled activities and during emergencies, as required.
Provides first aid to individuals as appropriate.
Attends to individuals' healthcare needs under the supervision of medical personnel.
Evacuates individuals in emergencies such as fires, natural disasters, or drills.
Prevents or manages aggressive behaviors and administers CPR in critical situations.
Delivers direct care and support services to individuals.
May mentor new SS I staff and/or volunteer for shift/team leadership roles.

Additional duties may include actively participating in or supporting the agency's disaster response and/or recovery efforts or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activation.

Such involvement may necessitate alternate shift assignments and/or locations.

Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in speaking and reading English
Ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment in critical situations.
Capacity to respond swiftly and calmly during emergencies.
Ability to demonstrate proper body mechanics, maintain good posture, and utilize correct lifting techniques.
Knowledge of individual care techniques and treatment, therapy, and developmental programs, or the willingness to learn through training.

Ability to provide individual care, administer first aid and/or CPR, perform Ukeru (once trained), and conduct Safe Use of Restraint (SUR).

Effective communication skills and the ability to train, mentor, and coach others.
Ability to collaborate effectively with others and function as a team member.
