Sterile Processing Tech Lead

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and storing of all reusable surgical instruments for patient care. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Apply the principles of asepsis to prevent infection and maintain optimum patient care
- Monitor surgery schedules daily and identify general, specific, and potential needs for all cases
- Inspect, assemble, and test general and specialty instrumentation for proper functioning
- Assemble instrument packs and trays for sterilization, wrapping, sealing, and accurately labeling items
- Control the entire sterilization process, including receiving, decontaminating, prepping, packing, sterilizing, documenting, and storing supplies, instruments, and equipment
- Operate and maintain all sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves, ultrasonic washer, and cart washer
- Decontaminate, reprocess, and maintain flexible endoscopes as needed
- Prepare, assemble, and package all instruments for surgery and other hospital departments
- Inventory, maintain, and supply OR storage areas, specialty lockers, carts, and equipment used
- Audit trays for decontamination, washing, assembly, sterilization, implant usage, and instrument count sheets and tracks loaner equipment
- Check condition of packaging prior to sending to sterile storage, operating room, and/or Nursing Care unit
- Create and maintain accurate records regarding inventories, instrument set content, sterilized goods, biological test results, sterilization, and washing records for infection control practice
- Maintain proper department temperature, humidity, and air pressure parameters
- Attend in-service presentations, including but not limited to infection control, patient safety, quality improvement, SDS, and OSHA standards
- Assist in the hiring process by participating in the peer interview process
- Develop orientation manual and assist with orientation of new personnel
- Lead by example as reflected in positive feedback from patients and staff
- Graduate of Sterile Processing Program Required
- 1+ years of experience Required
- Sterile Processing Certification Required
