Position Overview

Role Summary

This role entails providing support in Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering for Pixelle's operations. The key responsibilities include overseeing and executing capital projects and significant repair initiatives, delivering ongoing technical assistance as required, and offering expertise in power systems within the Utilities Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion and endorse all safety and environmental initiatives at the facility level.
  • Conduct preliminary studies on potential capital projects with significant business implications.
  • Formulate and sustain dynamic capital and major repair strategies, adapting to the mill's evolving requirements.
  • Assist Engineering and Maintenance teams in executing capital and major repair projects, emphasizing safety, environmental considerations, quality, cost efficiency, and timelines.
  • Prioritize and supervise assigned projects executed through Engineering.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects from initial concept through to completion, including evaluation of alternatives, cost estimation, scheduling, specification development, safety assessments, bid evaluations, installation, commissioning, training, spare parts management, and documentation.
  • Provide expertise in power systems, including best practices, design, troubleshooting, and operational support for turbine generators, auxiliary systems, excitation systems, high-voltage power distribution, relay protection, maintenance of transmission lines, and various control systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues within the facility.
  • Manage and supervise external contractors regarding safety, technical, and commercial standards.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Purchasing to develop contracts for high-value equipment and labor procurement.
  • Support Finance in financial assessments related to tax, capital versus expense, and investment return justifications.
  • Maintain documentation related to capital assets and engineering.
  • Mentor junior engineers, interns, and co-op students.
  • Ensure adherence to codes and standards in all Engineering and Maintenance activities.
  • Participate in and lead cross-functional teams.
Qualifications

Experience - A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing context, ideally within pulp and paper, power generation, or similar heavy industries.

Education - A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution. Possession of a Registered P.E. license and/or PMP certification is advantageous.

Core Competencies
  • Proficient in applying mathematical concepts and engineering design principles.
  • Capable of utilizing logical or scientific reasoning to address a wide range of complex problems.
  • Solid understanding and troubleshooting capabilities regarding power generation equipment and distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E standards.
  • Experience in preparing engineering documentation, including loop diagrams and single line diagrams.
  • Knowledge of process control instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a focus on results and best practices.
  • Strong communication skills for internal and external collaboration.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from various operational levels.
  • Competence in writing technical documents and reports.
  • Effective presentation skills.
Technical Skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and MS Project.
  • Familiarity with SAP and SAP Project Systems is a plus.
  • Medium-level proficiency in AutoCAD.
