Fleet and Facilities Operations Director

Job Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and appearance of Sysco's facilities and fleet. The successful candidate will direct the activities of the fleet shop, outside grounds, office space, beverage department, security, and power industrial equipment, ensuring compliance with government regulations and maintaining a safe working environment.
Responsibilities
- Direct the daily work and safety of associates engaged in building, grounds, sanitation, fleet maintenance, and repair, refrigeration systems, beverage department, power industrial equipment, and security.
- Manage labor hours and consumable supplies within budget.
- Develop and implement work schedules, including extra work days and shifts as needed.
- Coordinate emergency response and crisis management activities, developing and maintaining liaisons with local emergency management and other entities.
- Conduct the proper selection, purchase, utilization, and inventory of Company assets in support of the fleet and facilities departments.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient and effective upgrades and repairs.
- Develop business relationships with third-party vendors, including janitorial, pest services, security, external contractors, fleet and facility maintenance, and beverage.
- Maintain current certificates of insurance and hold harmless agreements for all contracted vendors.
- Prepare budget, profit plans, and capital requests as required.
- Evaluate metrics and adjust activities to meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Suggest efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures, and assist with the implementation of changes within fleet and facility maintenance, beverage, power industrial equipment, and security.
- Establish preventative maintenance schedules for all systems, equipment, and buildings, including ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, fire protection and security systems, electrical and energy management, dock doors/dock plate systems, power industrial equipment, building components, and landscaping.
- Handle priorities, assign, and monitor fleet and facility projects for quality and timely completion.
- Utilize maintenance tracking software for task management.
- Administer audits to ensure all required inspections and documentation are completed accurately and retained to minimize potential loss.
- Promote associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings.
- Maintain open communication channels with associates, answering questions and explaining policies and procedures.
- Monitor associate morale and submit and respond to ideas to improve associate engagement and enablement.
- Interpret, train, and consistently enforce Company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate efforts with the Safety department to aid in training, conducting associate observations, updating preferred work methods, conducting accident investigations, and routine safety inspections.
- Makes recommendations for disciplinary action and/or behavior modification where required.
- Execute management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews, and/or terminations.
- Perform the duties of associates supervised and other related duties as needed.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date re-certifications of commercial equipment and Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (CVOR) are compliant.
- Comply with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Experience
- 7 years maintenance management experience required.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid state Driver's License and proof of liability coverage meeting Company standards.
- Complete a Sysco approved defensive driving program.
- Level 1 Ammonia Operation Certification required.
- HAZWOPER 24 hrs Training required. Incident Commander Training required, or obtains within 12 months.
- Certificate, licenses, and registrations in refrigeration required.
- Obtain a Powered Industrial Equipment Certification from Sysco within 3 months.
- Certificate in diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and braking systems preferred.
- Certificate in fleet trade/mechanic preferred.
Professional Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Can add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, and ability to learn Sysco technology software and programs.
- Working knowledge of ammonia and Freon systems.
- Proven knowledge of environmental regulations/legislation and governing bodies.
- Successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.
- Apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely, and objective manner.
- Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments and shifts proactively and constructively.
- Work in a disciplined manner and capable of following established procedures, practices, and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
