Chief Executive Officer
The Chief Executive Officer serves as the primary representative for Habitat for Humanity, The Heart of Wyoming, advocating for the organization within the community.
This role encompasses the overall leadership of the organization, including fundraising initiatives, operational management, and financial oversight, all in alignment with the directives and policies set forth by the Board of Directors.
The CEO is instrumental in promoting the mission, health, and expansion of Habitat for Humanity, The Heart of Wyoming, guiding the organization in achieving its objectives.
As a nonvoting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors, the CEO reports directly to the Chair of the Board.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Oversee the staff responsible for all organizational functions, including construction, volunteer coordination, program services, mortgage management, property selection, community engagement, marketing, and administration.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to develop strategic plans that encompass programmatic, organizational, and financial goals.
- Support the Board in making critical decisions and refining organizational policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with governmental and non-governmental entities essential for the organization’s success.
- Ensure compliance with all necessary records and documentation as per federal, state, local, and organizational regulations.
- Stay informed about significant developments and trends within the local community and the broader Habitat for Humanity network.
- Evaluate potential properties and facilitate their acquisition with the support of staff and the Board.
Fundraising and Resource Development
- Implement an annual resource development strategy.
- Design and execute the organization’s annual fundraising campaigns, which include event planning, collateral creation, donor outreach, and stewardship.
- Oversee the submission of grant applications and related reporting.
- Lead efforts to secure in-kind donations at both local and national levels.
Management
- Create an environment that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse team of professionals.
- Develop job descriptions, conduct performance evaluations, and implement effective human resources practices.
- Encourage professional development opportunities for staff.
- Establish and maintain sound financial practices.
- Prepare an annual budget with input from staff, contractors, the Finance Committee, and the Board.
- Manage the organization to fulfill its mission within budgetary constraints.
Work Environment and Schedule
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, with flexibility based on organizational needs. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands
This position necessitates the ability to work in an office setting as well as engage with staff and volunteers on undeveloped properties and construction sites. Responsibilities include:
- Traveling within the community on short notice.
- Navigating undeveloped properties and construction sites, which may involve stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain.
- Occasional exposure to loud noise and varying weather conditions.
Management, fundraising, and property development entail inherent mental demands, such as meeting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and addressing challenges faced by clients or employees.
Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary ranges from $65,000 to $80,000, based on experience.
Benefits include a SIMPLE IRA with a 3% match, 18 days of Paid Time Off, and 15 paid holidays per year.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of experience in a non-profit environment, ideally in a role that involves engagement with supporters.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Experience as a non-profit employee or in an executive director role.
