Job Summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse 1 to join our team in the Stroke Unit. As a Registered Nurse 1, you will provide direct nursing care to individuals, supervise nursing care activities, and provide clinical supervision and training to Graduate Nurses and other staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Nursing Care Plans: Prepare or assist with preparation of nursing care plans consistent with individuals' comprehensive treatment plans and medical needs.
  • Provide Direct Patient Care: Carry out treatment procedures, administer medications, and monitor individuals' conditions.
  • Record and Maintain Medical Records: Record notes and maintain individuals' medical records and nursing care plans, including nursing care, medications, and treatments, reactions to care and treatment, intake and output of liquids and solids, and vital signs.
  • Participate in Multidisciplinary Treatment Teams: Participate in the development, implementation, and revision of individual care plans as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Triaging and Emergency Response: Assess findings, and either refer individuals directly to a physician in emergency cases or initiate appropriate remedial action; as directed, assist physicians with treatment functions.
  • Education and Counseling: Provide education and counseling to individuals and families regarding health, medications, procedures, and treatment goals.
  • Infection Control and Training: Practice and ensure compliance with established infection control policies and procedures; may train paraprofessional staff by demonstrating nursing techniques and providing instructions on use of techniques and nursing equipment.
Requirements
  • License and Registration: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing; 1 year of relevant clinical experience.
Work Schedule and Compensation

Variable Days; 7:30am to 8:00pm (Full-Time). Salary Grade/Rank: SG-18 Salary Range. $99,058 to $119,335 based on years of experience and education (includes Location Pay & Geographic Differential) plus shift and/or inconvenience pay of $575 to $5,375, if applicable.
