Job Title: Behavioral Threat Assessment Analyst

Join our team as a Behavioral Threat Assessment Analyst and play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our campus community.

About the Role:

This is a unique opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement policies and procedures for preventing violence at UNC-Chapel Hill. As a Behavioral Threat Assessment Analyst, you will be responsible for collecting and analyzing open-source behavioral background information related to persons of concern who may pose a threat to the University.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collecting collateral information from open-source material and confidential sources as allowed by law.
  • Consulting in active threat assessment investigations by gathering and evaluating information from various sources.
  • Participating in developing mitigation recommendations for persons of concern.
  • Coordinating activities with other critical members of the BTAT including University Police, Student Affairs, Title IX, CAPS, Employee and Management Relations, and Campus Safety and Risk Management.
  • Tracking escalations and de-escalation via the target, collateral contacts, and the person of concern.
  • Analyzing data using specialized software and utilization of web intelligence platforms.
  • Documenting all BTAT case activities.
  • Creating professional products to support the BTAT, identifying risk and protective factors associated with an increased risk of targeted violence and deploying analytical tradecraft techniques to make judgments on proximal and distal warning behaviors from a vast array of data and sources pertaining to a behavioral threat assessment.
  • Sharing information and knowledge by recognizing, valuing, building, and leveraging diverse and collaborative networks with law enforcement agencies, behavioral health and mental health professionals, and advocacy groups.
  • Supporting other Campus Safety Units and efforts by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information pertaining to potential threats to the campus community.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will also need demonstrated experience conducting analyses and producing analytic reports/briefings/products, as well as the ability to establish and maintain favorable working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of experience related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of criminal justice and law enforcement procedure, terminology, and policies and practices. Professional training or experience in behavioral analysis and/or targeted violence prevention. Experience in Digital Threat Assessment. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team-oriented environment. Experience working with Microsoft Office, Google Suite and SPSS. Strong oral and written communication skills. Data and records management skills.
