Overview

The Senior Software Development Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting computational research initiatives while catering to a diverse array of users reliant on the systems managed by our organization.

This position involves close collaboration with faculty members to design, develop, and oversee software solutions that facilitate various research endeavors. The senior analyst engages in research activities, assists in grant applications, prepares data and documentation for publication, and presents findings at academic gatherings.

In addition, the Senior Analyst provides comprehensive computational and software engineering support to faculty, staff, and students associated with designated projects.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development and Programming:

  • Collaborate with faculty to design and implement software solutions that enhance complex numerical models.
  • Offer guidance and assistance in response to inquiries from faculty, staff, and students across various disciplines.
  • Support modern programming practices, including agile methodologies, continuous integration, pair programming, and test-driven development.
  • Oversee and facilitate the use of GitHub for affiliated researchers.

Education, Training, and Outreach:

  • Participate in research computing sessions, recruit student workers, and contribute to planning support activities.
  • Engage with faculty, staff, and students to provide expertise and support for their research initiatives.
  • Deliver educational workshops and present research outcomes to campus groups and at conferences.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations.

Operational Support:

  • Provide expert assistance for distributed version control systems, including training and troubleshooting.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Guide and mentor other team members on best practices in software development.
  • Collaborate with fellow analysts to enhance software technologies and integration systems across departments.
  • Offer expert advice on version control systems and the integration of artificial intelligence technologies.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Bash, Perl, and Python, along with experience in compiled languages like C/C++ and Fortran.
  • Strong familiarity with Git and GitHub.
  • Experience with high-performance computing and Linux clusters.
  • Expertise in computer architectures, storage solutions, and resource schedulers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedules as needed.
  • Capability to work independently and motivate oneself.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with numerical modeling.
  • Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.
  • Experience with SLURM scheduling.
  • Long-term engagement with agile methodologies.
  • Background in an academic research environment.
