Job Summary

Champions for Children, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining the agency's accounting software, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the agency's accounting software, Financial Edge, including user setup, business and approval rule setup, chart of accounts, cost centers, project code management, and preparing timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external use.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual agency budget and entering it into Financial Edge.
  • Maintain and update supporting schedules to the financial statements, including supporting schedules for general ledger accounts and journal entries.
  • Complete monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and purchase card expenditures, and quarterly reconciliation of other balance sheet accounts.
  • Responsible for month-end close.
  • Prepare end-of-year 1099s.
  • Assist in annual external audit by independent auditors.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Review invoices, credit card charges, travel and expense reimbursement requests submitted by staff and/or entered directly in Financial Edge for accuracy. Process vendor invoices for recurring agency expenses, including rent, internet, phones, and printing.
  • Reconcile and process invoices for employee benefits and related fees.
  • Monitor and record bank and merchant fees.
  • Coordinate/perform periodic audits of petty cash accounts and employee travel, and other reimbursements.
  • Process all invoices for payment in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university, or other undergraduate degree accompanied by evidence of relevant accounting coursework plus two (2) years of employment in an accounting, bookkeeping, or related position.
  • OR An Associate's Degree or other certification in accounting or bookkeeping plus five (5) years of employment in an accounting, bookkeeping, or related position.
  • Experience in a Nonprofit environment preferred and Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (excellent Excel knowledge required), accurate data entry skills.
  • Must complete a Level 2 background screen and drug test.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently in prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Cooperative, friendly, and helpful/service-oriented attitude with co-workers and external stakeholders. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure a positive, constructive environment within the department and throughout the agency.
  • Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced, and growth-oriented environment, while maintaining a positive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Must be sensitive to the culturally and economically diverse population Champions for Children serves.
Work Environment
  • Position will be fully on-site in the office for the first 90 days of employment with the possibility of transitioning to a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week on-site upon successful completion of an introductory period. Requires ability to sit up to 8 hours per day with intermittent occasional walking, use of stairs, standing, bending, and squatting.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 25 pounds to a height up to 3 feet or carry for distances of up to 500 ft.
