Job Description

Performance Contracting is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our summer internship program as a Construction Management Intern. This internship opportunity is designed to equip interns with the essential tools and resources needed to gain comprehensive insight into the specialty construction industry.

As a Construction Management Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our experienced team members and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of construction management. You will be responsible for assisting with project planning, coordination, and execution, as well as developing your skills in project scheduling, budgeting, and quality control.

Throughout the summer program, you will benefit from close mentorship and engaging hands-on activities, enabling you to obtain real-world experience and develop a solid foundation in construction management. You will also have the opportunity to work on various projects, including learning how to write detailed proposals, prepare bid analysis and review, and understand project scheduling.

As a Construction Management Intern, you will be paired with a dedicated mentor within your assigned branch, who will guide you through the Performance Contracting Intern Activities Checklist. This checklist serves as a structured framework, offering you exposure to various disciplines within the branch's business. As you complete tasks, you will be expected to submit Weekly Project Recaps, providing detailed descriptions of your activities, the individuals you collaborated with, and the key takeaways from each task.

Examples of tasks to be completed on the Intern Activities Checklist include:

  • Learning how to write detailed proposals
  • Preparing bid analysis and review
  • Understanding project scheduling
  • Attending pre-bid walk-throughs
  • Learning the management process of project labor control, material handling, and job-cost analysis
  • Learning how to effectively manage subcontractors, materials, and equipment
  • Working directly with owners, construction managers, architects, engineers, and contractors
  • Assisting in preparation of quantity take-offs
  • Maintaining accurate and timely project documentation and correspondence
  • Understanding preparation of a financial job cost analysis
  • Learning the administration of the corporate safety program to ensure job site safety
  • Understanding specialized equipment utilization
  • Tracking and costing value material handling

Performance Contracting provides hourly wage, relocation reimbursement, and corporate housing options for all interns. Upon completion of the internship, each intern will receive an evaluation, which will be considered for future employment opportunities with the company.

Hourly wage: $22 an hour.

Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student seeking a Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or comparable degree
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be willing to relocate for the assignment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • A clear understanding of how to read and understand specifications and drawings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new job skills by engaging in the technical aspects of the job and applying new skills as they are taught
  • Customer service skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated baseline construction knowledge acquired through relevant work experience or completion of a second-year construction management/engineering curriculum
  • Basic knowledge of BlueBeam, AutoCAD, and/or OnScreen Takeoff is a plus
