Job Overview

Position Summary

The Underwater Operations Supervisor is tasked with the strategic planning and execution of diving initiatives in Alaska, ensuring safety and efficiency throughout all projects. This role involves overseeing dive teams, preparing project bids, and fostering strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and oversee all diving assignments within the Alaskan territory.
  • Manage logistics and deployment of diving teams and necessary equipment for various projects.
  • Implement projects in compliance with client expectations and legal standards, including ADCI and IMCA regulations.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and certification of diving equipment in collaboration with the Equipment & Facilities Coordinator.
  • Ensure prompt and precise submission of daily reports, dive logs, and multimedia documentation from field teams.
  • Collaborate with other regional Dive Operations Managers to address personnel requirements.
  • Work with Service Line VPs to allocate personnel for diverse projects.
  • Provide quarterly updates to the General Manager regarding project safety and financial performance.
  • Supervise dive personnel, assigning tasks, setting objectives, and evaluating performance outcomes.
  • Conduct regular site visits to uphold quality standards and ensure adherence to safe diving protocols.
  • Review and submit timecards to payroll in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate diver and tender job applicants and select candidates for employment.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels to guarantee availability of qualified personnel for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Monitor diver certifications, ensuring compliance and dispatching only those with valid credentials.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site assessments, preparing responsible bids and proposals.
  • Assist other service lines and regions with project proposals and cost estimates as necessary.
  • Draft reports, including operational plans, correspondence, and client presentations.
  • Keep track of projects in the bidding phase.
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities to promote services to both new and existing clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current customers.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders prior to crew mobilization to ensure everyone is informed.
  • Ensure adherence to safe diving practices and participate in safety committee activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred. Commercial Dive Training and ADCI Certification are also preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years in a commercial diving role is preferred, with at least 5 years in a management or supervisory capacity. Experience in logistics and the construction industry is advantageous, as is prior diving experience in Cook Inlet.

Skills and Knowledge

Exceptional organizational and time management abilities are essential, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. The ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external clients is crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail are necessary, as well as the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment. Candidates must be willing to travel to project sites as needed and possess the ability to produce reports, business correspondence, and proposals. Familiarity with the maritime industry and existing relationships in the region is beneficial. Knowledge of standard diving practices and relevant regulations (ADCI, IMCA) is required, along with an understanding of federal and state regulations related to construction and commercial diving. Familiarity with blueprint reading and ship drawings is a plus. The ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment is essential, as is an understanding of project management, cost estimation, and workforce forecasting.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to perform work in both office and field settings, including on boats and floating barges.
