Job Overview

Position Summary

The Underwater Operations Supervisor is tasked with the strategic planning and execution of diving initiatives in the Alaska region, ensuring safety and efficiency. This role involves managing dive teams, preparing project proposals, and fostering strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and management of all diving assignments within the Alaska area.
  • Facilitate logistics and deployment of diving personnel and equipment as required for various projects.
  • Implement projects in compliance with client expectations and legal standards, including ADCI regulations and state and federal laws related to commercial diving.
  • Coordinate dive equipment maintenance and certification with the Equipment & Facilities Coordinator and Asset Manager.
  • Ensure timely and precise submission of daily reports, dive logs, and video documentation from field teams.
  • Collaborate with Dive Operations Managers in other regions to address personnel requirements.
  • Work alongside Service Line VPs to fulfill staffing needs for diverse projects.
  • Provide quarterly updates to the General Manager regarding project safety and financial performance.
  • Supervise dive personnel, assign tasks, set objectives, monitor performance, and assess outcomes.
  • Conduct regular site visits to uphold quality control and ensure adherence to safe diving practices.
  • Review and submit timecards promptly to payroll.
  • Evaluate diver and tender job applicants and select candidates for employment.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels to guarantee the availability of qualified personnel for both on-call and major projects.
  • Monitor diver certifications, ensuring compliance and dispatching only those with current qualifications.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site assessments, preparing comprehensive bids and proposals.
  • Assist other service lines and regions with project proposals and cost estimates as necessary.
  • Draft reports, including dive operation plans, correspondence, and client video materials.
  • Maintain an updated record of projects in the bidding phase.
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities to promote services to both new and existing clients.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with current customers to ensure successful business interactions.
  • Prior to crew mobilization, communicate with all relevant internal stakeholders to keep them informed.
  • Ensure safe diving operations and actively participate in the Safety Committee.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred. Commercial Dive Training and ADCI Certification are also preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years in a commercial diving role is preferred, along with 5+ years in a management or supervisory capacity. Experience in logistics and the construction industry is advantageous, as is prior diving experience in specific regions.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong organizational and time management abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required, along with outstanding customer service skills. Candidates must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to work efficiently in a team environment. Travel to project sites may be necessary, including the ability to be away from home for short durations. Candidates should be capable of producing reports, business correspondence, presentations, and proposals. Familiarity with the maritime industry and current knowledge of standard diving practices and regulations is crucial.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to perform work in both an office setting and in the field, including on boats and floating barges.
