Job Summary

The Physician Assistant at Marion Health will work collaboratively with physicians to provide comprehensive medical care to patients. This includes examining, diagnosing, and treating acute and chronic health conditions. The successful candidate will design a plan of care with the patient to promote, maintain, and/or restore health. Additional patient care actions will be performed based on the diagnosis. The Physician Assistant will also participate in medical direction, assist in the education of staff, and supervise the overall professional and clinical aspects of care rendered at the practice site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement patient care plans in collaboration with physicians.
  • Examine, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Participate in medical direction and assist in the education of staff.
  • Supervise the overall professional and clinical aspects of care rendered at the practice site.

Requirements
  • Unrestricted Physician Assistant license.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Authorization to administer medication.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification, current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, and current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification OR must obtain upon hire through RQI before working clinically in the Emergency Department.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Clinical skills, professional, physiological, and emerging technical knowledge and proficiency in diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation procedures.
  • Familiarity with HER/EMR programs.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administrations, providers, consultants, business associates, and regulatory agencies.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting, and work well in a team environment.
  • Highly developed computer skills to include the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to operations and job function.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with the ability to effectively prioritize.
  • Ability to effectively perform job functions under periods of extreme stress and produce positive outcomes.
  • Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.

Working Conditions
  • Typical hospital and clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work may be subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels.
  • Exposure to potentially violent situations.
  • Risk for occupational exposure to blood, body fluid, and other potentially infectious, electrical, and radiation hazards.
  • Works with protected health information.
  • Works in close proximity to patients and visitors.
  • Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends based on the needs of the department.

Physical and Mental Activities, Tools, and Equipment
  • Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
  • Requires the ability to handle highly emotional and highly stressful situations.
  • Use of computers and other standard office equipment.
  • Pushing workstation on wheels to patient rooms.
  • Lifting supplies and equipment typically found in clinical patient care areas.
  • Operates equipment typically found in patient rooms.
  • May assist patients with mobility both in and out of bed.
