Job Summary

The Physician Assistant will work collaboratively with physicians to provide high-quality patient care in the emergency department. Key responsibilities include examining, diagnosing, and treating acute and chronic health conditions. The Physician Assistant will design a plan of care with the patient to promote, maintain, and/or restore health. Additionally, they will perform various patient care actions based on the diagnosis and participate in medical direction to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient services.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Unrestricted Physician Assistant license
  • Current DEA registration
  • Authorization to administer medication
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification, current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, and current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Possess clinical skills, professional, physiological, and emerging technical knowledge and proficiency in diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation procedures
  • Familiarity with HER/EMR programs
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administrations, providers, consultants, business associates, and regulatory agencies
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting, and work well in a team environment
  • Highly developed computer skills to include the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to operations and job function
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with the ability to effectively prioritize
  • Ability to effectively perform job functions under periods of extreme stress and produce positive outcomes
  • Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties

Working Conditions
  • Typical hospital and clinical environment with frequent standing and walking
  • Work may be subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels
  • Exposure to potentially violent situations
  • Risk for occupational exposure to blood, body fluid, and other potentially infectious, electrical, and radiation hazards
  • Works with protected health information
  • Works in close proximity to patients and visitors
  • Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends based on the needs of the department

Physical and Mental Activities, Tools, and Equipment
  • Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner
  • Requires the ability to handle highly emotional and highly stressful situations
  • Use of computers and other standard office equipment
  • Pushing workstation on wheels to patient rooms
  • Lifting supplies and equipment typically found in clinical patient care areas
  • Operates equipment typically found in patient rooms
  • May assist patients with mobility both in and out of bed
