Position Overview:
The Webster Campus Community School is seeking a Family Worker to collaborate with middle school students and their families. This role is essential in fostering a supportive environment that promotes educational success and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stay informed about agency and community resources.
- Facilitate coordination of client services with various providers, including mental health, medical, educational, and social services.
- Conduct home and field visits as necessary.
- Encourage teamwork and collaboration among staff members.
- Build and maintain relationships with parents and families of program participants.
- Ensure a safe environment for students and families.
- Participate in internal and external meetings and training sessions.
- Prepare and submit reports, including monthly updates to supervisors.
- Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Program-Specific Duties:
- Deliver direct services to students and families, including engagement, referral, advocacy, and case management.
- Collaborate with the Community School Director, Social Worker, and School Personnel to identify students with chronic absenteeism.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a school environment.
- Experience in a supervisory or management role is preferred.
- Familiarity with best practices in youth development is advantageous.
- Strong ability to work effectively with young people, school administrators, community partners, and families.
- Experience in program design and curriculum management.
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in modern business communication tools, including computers and electronic mail.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
- Capability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long durations.
- Capacity to climb stairs as needed for home visits or fieldwork.
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects/documents.
- Willingness to travel within the boroughs of New York City and adjacent counties using public transportation.
- Ability to travel at least 1 mile in various weather conditions for home visits or fieldwork.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged computer use.
- Occasional lifting/moving of up to 10 pounds.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting.
- Climbing stairs for home visits or fieldwork as required.
- Bending and retrieving objects/documents.
- Traveling within New York City and nearby counties via public transportation.
- Traveling a minimum of 1 mile in various weather conditions for home visits or fieldwork.
