VHB's Atlanta Archaeology Group is seeking experienced Archaeological Field Technicians to support our team for Phase I archaeological field survey work in Georgia and the Southeast.
Job SummaryWe are looking for highly motivated and detail-oriented individuals to conduct Phase I archaeological fieldwork, including pedestrian survey, shovel testing, and field data recording of soils, artifact finds, and site resources.
Responsibilities- Conduct Phase I archaeological fieldwork, including pedestrian survey, shovel testing, and field data recording of soils, artifact finds, and site resources.
- Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of data using handheld GPS units; Survey123 and Field Maps App.
- Work closely with project team under the supervision of VHB archaeologists.
- Well-qualified candidates may serve as Crew Chiefs or Field Directors as needed.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently.
- Motivated to lead and mentor others.
- A bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field.
- 0-1 years of field experience with a range of field methodologies, including survey, testing, and excavation, and monitoring.
- 6+ months of field experience preferred.
- Completion of an accredited field school or equivalent experience.
- Experience working as a field archaeologist.
- Experience in the Southeastern United States preferred.
- Experience with the application of standard archaeological field and laboratory techniques.
- Valid driver's license.
