Experience Required:

Minimum of 5 years' experience in roles such as QSE operator, wholesale marketer, power trader/broker, or settlement agent, ideally within an ERCOT environment.

At least 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a utility context.


Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Manager of Wholesale Marketing/QSE in overseeing the activities of STEC within the ERCOT Wholesale Market. Under the guidance of the Wholesale Marketing/QSE Manager, coordinate, direct, and supervise all aspects of STEC QSE services as assigned. Manage and oversee the scheduling, purchasing, and selling of generation and natural gas.


Working Conditions:

Primarily office-based with sedentary tasks. Frequent walking, sitting, and use of hands for various tasks are required. Occasional standing may be necessary. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision. Proficient use of personal computing equipment, telephones, multifunction printers, photocopiers, and calculators is essential. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds are required. Travel to meetings or business-related events may be necessary, and there may be a need to work after hours, on weekends, and during holidays to respond to urgent situations.


Typical Functions:
  1. Coordinate, manage, and implement short-term energy and natural gas strategies, including load estimates, capacity purchases, and energy product sales.
  2. Analyze QSE bid/offer practices, fuel price forecasts, and market trends to optimize costs, enhance asset value, and meet operational requirements.
  3. Identify, develop, and implement innovative resource and market strategies for STEC.
  4. Assist in developing practices, procedures, and training to ensure compliance with ERCOT Protocols, PUCT Substantive Rules, and NERC Standards.
  5. Support the creation of monthly operating and settlement reports and may present findings to senior management and the Board of Directors.
  6. Develop and maintain various scheduling and analytical tools for departmental use. Aid in the maintenance and enhancement of QSE and market-related software.
  7. Assist with settlements and the preparation of monthly fuel and energy cost estimates.
  8. Participate in meetings and conferences to advance the interests of South Texas Electric Cooperative within the ERCOT stakeholder process.
  9. Assist in estimating future budgeting needs for generation to facilitate financial planning.
  10. Coordinate the scheduling of departmental personnel work and training.
  11. Maintain accurate records for regulatory compliance audits.
  12. Perform additional duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned.
