ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Registered Nurse (CAP RN 1) position serves as an introductory role within the Clinical Advancement Program for Registered Nurses.

The CAP RN 1 is tasked with delivering and coordinating proficient clinical care, which includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a designated group of patients.


As part of the Kidney Disease healthcare team, the CAP RN 1 engages in decision-making, educational initiatives, leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts aimed at enhancing patient care outcomes and operational efficiency.


KEY DUTIES:


All tasks and responsibilities must be executed in alignment with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, contractual obligations, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.


Initially, the RN will perform essential functions under the supervision of the Program Manager and receive guidance from the Educator or Preceptor for the first six months of employment.


It is expected that the RN will fulfill the necessary criteria to progress to the next Inpatient CAP level within 24 months of hire.


Conduct systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment, documenting findings in the patient medical record, adjusting treatment plans as necessary, and notifying relevant healthcare team members.


Identify and report any deviations in patient status to the appropriate healthcare professionals, including managers and physicians.

Assess daily patient care needs and collaborate with both direct and ancillary care staff as required.

Deliver safe and effective patient care as prescribed for all treatment modalities.


Coordinate communication with both Fresenius Kidney Care and external dialysis providers, as well as hospital personnel, to ensure continuity of care.

Administer medications as prescribed, adhering to contractual agreements.

Ensure nephrology physician orders for patients are accurately recorded in the Medical Record.

Document all treatment data thoroughly and promptly in the designated medical record.


Implement, monitor, and document patient responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, including timely notification of any adverse reactions to the physician and blood supplier.


Maintain familiarity with company emergency policies to effectively respond to emergencies.

Delegate appropriate tasks to patient care staff, including LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians.

Oversee patient care staff to ensure compliance with techniques and adherence to Fresenius Kidney Care policies.

Promote infection control and maintain equipment and environmental safety.

Assess and document patient and family learning needs to provide ongoing education.

Instruct facility staff on specialized care related to renal replacement and apheresis therapies.

Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to update nursing assessments and care plans for assigned patients.

Initiate and document ongoing quality assurance activities, including monthly reports as directed.

Serve as a resource for the healthcare team and participate in training and orientation for new staff as assigned.

Attend all required staff meetings as scheduled.

May assist in outpatient facilities as needed.

Support and promote the mission, vision, values, and customer service philosophy of Fresenius Medical Care North America.

Perform additional duties as assigned by management, adhering to state, federal, and contractual standards.

Areas of practice are diverse, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies, and apheresis.

This position involves direct patient care, which may require heavy lifting and patient mobility assistance. Equipment aids and coworkers may provide support. Frequent, prolonged periods of standing are necessary, and the employee must be able to bend over.

Occasionally, the employee may need to move equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. and lift chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 lbs. The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials may occur.


Essential functions of this position may be required in various locations with similar physical demands and working conditions.

Daily responsibilities include desk work, computer tasks, and interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians.

Travel between assigned facilities and community locations may be necessary, along with attendance at regional meetings.

Participation in an on-call rotation is required.

SUPERVISION:
Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs may be assigned to the RN in charge after:

Successful completion of all Fresenius Kidney Care education and modality-specific training requirements plus

A minimum of nine months of RN experience plus

Six months of dialysis experience.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Current and valid state licensure.

Must meet practice requirements in all states of employment.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:


Entry-level for RNs with less than two years of nephrology nursing experience within the last two years or for RNs with a BSN and less than one year of nephrology nursing experience within the last two years.

A minimum of nine months of experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred.

Six months of nephrology experience is required before independent work without a qualified dialysis RN.

Six months of dialysis experience is necessary to be on-call.

Preferred experience includes hemodialysis and/or ICU settings.

Successful completion of Fresenius Kidney Care education and training requirements for new employees.

Maintenance of CPR BLS Certification is required.

Must meet all employment conditions, including passing the Ishihara's Color Blindness Test.

Completion of all annual required education/training/competencies is necessary.

Ongoing training and education as assigned or required must be completed.
